Begfield
is an ePUB e-book commercial publisher, it also hosts at this time a
number of non-commercial forums and blogs.
The aim of the company is sell
electronic literature at a modest price, and return to authors and
providers an immediate per-sale royalty of not less than 50% of the
price. At the moment the recipe is that 30-40% will be set aside for
third-party retailers, and the remainder will go to this business.
This recipe is preliminary - the ideal would be a 20-20-60 split.
We will be looking at installing a
micropayement system (possibly google's if it becomes
avaialable soon) and the idea at this time is to have a fixed
priced sales system, perhaps based on the daily price of gold, or
some other metal or object.
Also none of our publications will not
be DRMed, or encrypted in any way, and all will be paragraph
referenced for use in quoting. At the moment we are planning to
render all our publications in Daisy ePUB format so that they
are useful to the blind and may also be listened to with the right
software.
Copyright is an important issue
for this company, authors must be paid, however current copyright
laws have been hijacked by corporate interests, we are endeavouring
to create a new copyright agreement with our authors, where by they
are protected for their lifetimes, where copyright is not
transferable (cannot be sold), and commercial/corporate copyright is
limited to 10 years.
